This brand spankin’ new clip for Dirty Projectors’ hot single “Stillness Is the Move” was released this morning. There’s synchronized dance moves in blue pantsuits, druid hoods, a dozen Siberian Huskies, and Dave Longstreth coaxing llamas through the mountains. Mariah Carey would be proud of Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Haley Dekle’s smooth dancing and singing. And for such a straight-ahead pop number, the images are delightfully strange. The Matthew Lessner-directed music video was shot in between the band’s recent collaborations with David Byrne and Björk by Adam Newport-Berra on location on Mount Equinox in Vermont, beside The Charterhouse of the Transfiguration monastery and an abandoned underground cryonics receptacle. “Stillness” was produced by Justin Lundstrom for Greencard Pictures and features clothing styles by J.W. Anderson. Dirty Projectors’ Bitte Orca is out now on Domino, and we featured the group in our Summer ‘09 issue.
Natasha Khan and band brought single-of-the-year-contender “Daniel” to Jimmy Kimmel Live. Bat For Lashes’ Two Suns is out now via Astralwerks. Khan graces the cover of Under the Radar‘s current Spring 2009 issue.

“You Never Know” (Live on “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien”) Video
Wilco (the band) stopped by Conan O’Brien desk last night to perform the folksy “You Never Know,” a cut from their seventh studio LP, Wilco (The Album). The lyrics of the breezy track discuss how each generation thinks the world will end in their lifetime and the protagonist reveling in proclaiming, “I don’t care anymore.” O’Brien closes up the night by asking Jeff Tweedy to “hook [him] up with a suit.” The Nudie-suit-loving Chicago group are now starting Wilco (the summer tour). Wilco (The Band) is out next Tuesday on Nonesuch. (via Prefix)

Magnet Magazine kicked off what they aptly christened “Summer of Golden Bloom” with The Lemonheads-like outlier, “E.H.M.” from debut album, Fan the Flames. That’s the ghostly album artwork down below. If you’re not familiar, nine music magazines and websites (including yours truly) are premiering Golden Bloom tracks every week until the album drops on August 18th. Today, we’ve got an exclusive download remix of runaway single “Doomsday Devices.” The original track had sort of a Wilco-lite aesthetic going on (like much of the summery debut). This retooling, by the Athens, Georgia electro-rock threesome Ruby Isle is an auto-Tuned freak show. The remix could easily slot in well with the rest of Kindercore‘s stable of dance-pop bands. Side note: Ruby Isle bandmate Dan Geller is the co-founder of Kindercore. The Ruby crew mutate the apocalyptic Casiotone sing-a-long into a schizophrenic banger. I guess if you’re facing the end of the world the best distraction is sweating it out on the dance floor. Golden Bloom is spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Shawn Fogel (pictured) and features drummer Michael Azerrad, a music journalist who wrote Our Band Could Be Your Life. Other band mainstays include Deleon frontman Dan Saks, Pink Floyd tribute band The Machine memberRyan Ball, Brooklyn guitarist Jeff Patlingrao, and Guster sideman Josh Cohen. The power-pop group is touring the Eastern seaboard this summer. Fan the Flames was recorded with Ryan Ball at The Gearbox and produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Mates of State). Fogel also retinkered with Roger Greenawalt (Ben Kweller) and Dylan Magierek (Mark Kozelek)

Golden Bloom Album Promotion - ‘Fan The Flames’ Song By Song
Annie Clark/St. Vincent makes her network television debut by treating David Letterman’s audience to a rousing performance of Actor‘s “Marrow.” A strong supporting band of saxes, oboes, and backing vocalists help the shredding Clark. Actor is out now on 4AD and St. Vincent is finishing off her U.S. jaunt for several dates in Europe. Also, recently Clark played some stripped down versions of “Actor Out of Work” and “The Strangers” for Lake Fever Sessions. The indie queen even managed to squeeze in a rare track called “Oh My God.” It’s only available if you bought Actor through iTunes.

Kilsyth, Scotland rock trio The Twilight Sad puts the spotlight on that burrowing bassline from Craig Orzel. Of course, Andy MacFarlane tremeloed-out guitar, James Graham’s signature burr, and Mark Devine’s drumming are equally brooding/pummeling/epic. On September 22nd (September 21st in the UK), Fat Cat will release Forget the Night Ahead, the group’s highly-anticipated follow-up to their astounding 2007 debut Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters. Before that, single “I Became a Prostitute” will be released as a 7-inch and download on August 4th.
