Brooklyn-based indie pop band Florist have shared the transportive new video for their new track “Time Is A Dark Feeling.” The video features a slideshow of images that embellish the frail and vacant qualities of the song. Florist recently announced the release of their third album Emily Alone due out July 26 via Double Double Whammy.

Oh Sees Announce New Album Face Stabber, Share Epic New Track “Henchlock”

The ever prolific and restless California garage-rockers have announced their new album Face Stabber, due out August 16 via Castle Face, and along with it they have shared a truly face melting 21 minute freak out called “Henchlock.” Face Stabber is the follow up to last year’s Smote Reverser and will be a double album.

Caroline Polachek Shares New Video for “Door”

Caroline Polachek (ex-Chairlift member) has shared her debut track under her newly minted solo project, the first to go by her birth name. This track is the first piece of new music to come from Caroline since her 2017 album Drawing the Target Around the Arrow, released under her CEP moniker. Previously, Polachek had also released music under her Ramona Lisa moniker with 2014’s Arcadia.
Despite being her first proper solo appearance, it is quite collaborative in nature. The track was written and produced by Polachek, Danny Harle, Dan Nigro, and Jim-E Stack. The video features Polachek warping through portals in mirrors and screens with lush CGI and some sweet Greyhounds.

Planet Giza Share New Video for “Ace Boogie Energy”

Montreal-based hip-hop/producer trio Planet Giza (Rami B, Tony Stone, & Dumix) have shared their new video for their track “Ace Boogie Energy.” The track comes from their album Added Sugar released earlier this year on the group’s own label, which featured Mick Jenkins and a track co-produced by Kaytranada.
The video, directed by Touchemoipas and inspired by Paid in Full, features the group hanging in a house while the camera veers kaleidoscopically through hazy rooms.

Maria Usbeck Announces New Album, Shares Lead Single “Amor Anciano”

Brooklyn-based electronic artist Maria Usbeck has shared her lead single, “Amor Anciano” off of her sophomore album, Envejeciendo, due out August 16 on Cascine. The album follows her Caroline Polacheck produced 2016 debut Amparo.
The track is full of the warm space and soft glow of Japanese ambient music interpolated into a Latin dance context. The inspiration for the track came after “having two different conversations, one with my grandmother, the other with an elderly man I met in New Zealand” Usbeck says in the press release for the album. “They both talked about their long lost loves, about the ones who got away, as if they could’ve lived entirely different lives if they chose the other person to spend them with. It wasn’t a regretful conversation, just older people reflecting on past romance and letting the stories play out a bit.” The track features snippets of the interview she conducted with her grandmother.
Envejeciendo, (Spanish for “aging”) is a concept album “exploring the universal obsession with youth and our preoccupation with growing older.”

Younghusband
Premiere: Younghusband Share New Song “Modern Lie”

British trio Younghusband are releasing a new album, Swimmers, on June 7 via Opposite Number. Previously they shared its first single and opening track, “Translation,” which was one of our Songs of the Week. Now we are pleased to premiere the album’s second single, “Modern Lie.” It may be a jaunty indie pop song but, as its title suggests, it’s about confronting the truth about yourself. It’s also a song so nice they recorded it twice. Listen to “Modern Lie” below.
Frontman and songwriter Euan Hinshelwood had this to say about the song: “It’s about giving into fallacies, internal and external, without too much resistance. Believing things about yourself and others that just aren’t true, like you no longer know where the start or end point of anything is. And then realizing you probably shouldn’t take things so seriously all the time, and just be a bit lighter of thought.”
Of recording the song, Hinshelwood says: “We recorded this song twice, at the very beginning of the album session and the very end. So it’s the first and last song we recorded for the album. Two very different versions. Which kind of works with the subject matter.”
Swimmers is the band’s third album, the follow-up to 2015’s Dissolver. Hinshelwood set up a studio in a barn in Greenwich, England, which is where Swimmers was recorded.
In a previous press release Hinshelwood had this to say about recording the album: “I didn’t play the songs to the guys before. For the majority of the record the band had only heard the songs on the day of recording them. We then went over the top of those bare bones but at the core of it I wanted to get something loose and gritty.”
Hinshelwood also had this to say about Swimmers: “There were so many things we liked and disliked about our first two records. We thought we’d try and find a middle ground. I wanted to bring us back to that place between the first and second record but with more confidence in songwriting. Maybe being a bit more extreme - a bit more emotional extremity and openness.”
New York City-based indie rock icons Versus have shared another video, this time for their new track “Invisible Love” off of their EP Ex Nihilo out today.
Ex Nihilo marks the bands’ first output since 2010’s On the Ones and Threes which came out via Merge. Recently the band had performed at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas and are slated to perform opening for Ex-Hex on May 9 at Elsewhere Space in Brooklyn. Without revealing too much, the band have also shared that this EP will be preceding “future cryptic releases.”

Faye Webster Shares New Track “Right Side of My Neck”

Atlanta based singer-songwriter Faye Webster has shared a new track, “Right Side of My Neck” off of her forthcoming debut LP Atlanta Millionaires Club due out May 24 via Secretly Canadian. The track finds the singer-songwriter in a moment of tender reflection, all muted R&B drums and smooth keys embroidered with some lush slide guitar.
In a statement accompanying the release, Webster had this to say: “For me I find that sometimes the best songs come out from the exact moment. This song I didn’t think about writing or what I was doing, I was fresh from a feeling and that’s when I get some of my most honest and relatable songs.”
