Eagles of Death Metal were playing the Le Bataclan venue tonight in Paris when terrorists stormed it, shot into the crowd, and took hostages. According to The Washington Post the band was able to escape, but some of their crew are unaccounted for. This followed an earlier suicide bomb in a Paris soccer stadium. The police have stormed the venue and the siege is over, but CNN are reporting that as many as 100 attendees are dead.
The Washington Post spoke to Emily Dorio, the wife of Eagles of Death Metal’s drummer Julian Dorio, who said she had briefly spoken to her husband. She said: “We are just holding our breath and saying prayers for everyone. He called to say that he loved me and he was safe. Everyone on stage was able to get off.”
The band has also posted to Twitter and Facebook: “We are still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew. Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation.”
Julien Pierce, a Europe 1 journalist who was inside the venue, described the attacks to the BBC (via Pitchfork): “Several armed men came into the concert. Two or three men, not wearing masks, came in with what looked like Kalashnikovs and fired blindly on the crowd. It lasted between 10 and 15 minutes. It was extremely violent and there was panic. The attackers had enough time to reload at least three times. They were very young.”
There is speculation that ISIS is behind the attacks. The above photo is of Eagles of Death Metal playing tonight at Le Bataclan and is from zsuzsulla’s Instagram page.
