Iconic horror film director and composer John Carpenter has shared a new video for “Christine,” a track from his upcoming Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998. “Christine” is a re-recorded version of Carpenter’s theme to his 1983 movie of the same name, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Fittingly the video is also inspired by the movie, and features the possessed classic car and a woman (played by Rita Volk) in need of assistance. There’s also an appearance from Carpenter, who self-directed the video, his first narrative work in seven years. Watch it below, followed by Carpenter’s upcoming tour dates.

In a press release Carpenter had this to say about the “Christine” theme: “Electronica for a killer car. Most of the sound track for Christine was 1950’s rock ‘n roll (with a main title appearance of George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ ‘Bad to the Bone’). I filled in where necessary.”

Carpenter previously released two albums of original music inspired by his movie themes, 2015’s Lost Themes and 2016’s Lost Themes II. On October 20 he is releasing a new album via Sacred Bones, Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, in which he has newly recorded his classic movie themes with the same familial collaborators that worked on both Lost Themes albums and tours, his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies. They also cover Ennio Morricone’s theme for The Thing. Carpenter previously shared his reworked theme from 1994’s “In the Mouth of Madness.”

Carpenter has long composed music for his films (which include such classics as Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York, and They Live). Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 will be available as a CD, black LP, and digitally, as well as in various limited edition color vinyl formats.
