Metric have released a new free app, The Pagan Portal, for IOS/Apple and Android platforms. Users of the app will be able to stream songs from the band’s forthcoming new album, Pagans in Vegas (due out September 18 via their own label MMI). Right now you can stream the previously shared Pagans in Vegas tracks “The Shade” and “Cascades,” along with the previously unreleased Pagans track “Too Bad, So Sad.” In the run up to the album’s release more tracks will be unlocked. App users will also receive other Metric notifications, such as pre-sale tickets, contests, and discounts. You can download it here.

Frontwoman Emily Haines talked about the app in a press release announcing it: “This is actually the second app we have designed. Our first was our Synthetica app, which we made with the creator of Bjork’s Biophilia app. It allowed people to experiment with different visual and sonic effects, it was really unusual and I loved it. We got over 100,000 downloads in the first two weeks but it had no enduring function once you’d played around with all the features, which made it feel disposable. So this time we wanted to make something that would serve as a dedicated platform with a life of its own, a way to reward our biggest fans with first access to everything new we create in the future. Right now it’s all about unveiling Pagans in Vegas and giving our listeners a chance to hear that music before anyone else, but our intention is for it to evolve well beyond that. I imagine The Pagan Portal being the place where we preview all of our new music first.”
