My Favorite Album: Emily Haines of Metric on Silver Jews’ “American Water”

“Listening to American Water is like having an intelligent conversation with a friend.”

Jun 29, 2020

Reviews

Jul 18, 2022

After over two decades in the game, Canadian band Metric show absolutely no sign of their artistic fire diminishing. More

Sep 27, 2018

This Canadian indie band is known for a razor sharp mix of meticulously produced synth pop, bolstered by the icy smooth vocals of frontwoman Emily Haines, geared to play well to large audiences. Those large audiences partially materialized when they landed the theme song to the Grammy-nominated soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse back in 2010. More

Jun 13, 2012

No one could accuse the dark moods of Metric’s music of hanging like storm clouds over the band’s latest set of songs. Synthetica is eerie and disconcerting, but grounded in a realism that the band refers to as its first attempt at “facing what you know is true.” More

Apr 12, 2010

Metric bandleader Emily Haines is a triple threat. Make people swoon with delicate compositions as part of Broken Social Scene? Done! Break hearts with a stripped-down confessional solo project? Child’s play. Friday night at the Palladium, it was all about rocking out. And what do you know, she does that too! More
