Metronomy released a new album, Metronomy Forever, last year via Because Music. Now the British band have shared a video for the album’s “Whitsand Bay.” Sam Davis and Tom Andrew directed the video, which features shots of disco lights in empty rooms, desolate outdoor spaces, and elsewhere. The band’s founder and frontman Joseph Mount had this to say about the song in a press release: “This is a pivotal track between the old idea I had for the album (i.e. a more standard form 10 track piece) and what the album is now. It’s intentionally free and easy and uses a loop I made on the LinnDrum to create the ‘drum ‘n’ bass lite’ rhythm. It’s one of my favorite tracks on the album because it became a starting point for what the album is now. I also quite like the idea of having another song called the bay to distract people from the original bay.”

The press release describes the video and its locations in more detail: “The surrealist-esque visual to the track, directed by Sam Davis and Tom Andrew, follows a disco light - salvaged from an old Italian club in the ‘80s - filmed in various urban and natural picturesque environments in the UK, from Tottenham’s The Cause club to its ancient marshes, from a quaint Hampshire farm to an abandoned airspace in Suffolk, and from the exquisite Essex coast to the resplendent landscapes of Pembrokeshire.”

Metronomy Forever includes “Lately,” a new song the British band shared via a video in May (it was #1 on our Songs of the Week list). When the album was announced in June they shared a video for another new song from it, “Salted Caramel Ice Cream” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week). Then they shared the album’s “Walking in the Dark,” via a video for the track (it was also one of our Songs of the Week). Then the band shared another song from the album, “Wedding Bells,” via a lyric video for the track that features the lyrics written on a wedding program (it was also one of our Songs of the Week). Then they shared a full-on video for “Wedding Bells.”

Then in January Metronomy shared the a new song, “Up, Higher,” via Amazon Music as an Amazon Original. The song was originally intended for Metronomy Forever, but didn’t make the final tracklist. “Up, Higher” was #1 on our Songs of the Week list.

Metronomy Forever is the follow-up to 2016’s Summer 08. Since then Mount did production work on Robyn‘s Honey (Robyn appeared on Summer 08). Mount also moved from Paris to the English countryside, which influenced the album.

Mount had this to say about Metronomy Forever in a previous press release: “What happens is when you’re making music and you enter a world where you have achieved some sort of celebrity no matter how large or small you start to think about yourself in terms of legacy and what you’re going to leave behind and then you realize that’s limited to the interest people have in you. In the end I feel completely comfortable with it. The less importance you place in any art the more interesting it can become in a way…I’m making music, I’m going to do some concerts, I need to feed my children.”
