Parquet Courts Announce Remix EP, Share “Wide Awake (Danny Krivit Re-Edit)”

Wide Awake Remixes EP Due Out September 28 via Rough Trade

Jul 10, 2018 Total Control

Parquet Courts released a new Danger Mouse-produced album, Wide Awake!, back May via Rough Trade. Now the band have announced a new remix EP, Wide Awake Remixes, and shared a track from it, “Wide Awake (Danny Krivit Re-Edit).” The EP is due out September 28 on 12-inch vinyl via Rough Trade. It also includes two remixes by Mikey Young of Australian band Total Control. Check out “Wide Awake (Danny Krivit Re-Edit)” below, followed by the EP’s tracklist.

Parquet Courts’ A. Savage had this to say about the EP in a press release: “I like the spirit of the rock song remixed for the dance floor. Some of my favorite versions of rock songs, like The Units’ ‘High Pressure Days’ or the Happy Mondays’ ‘Kinky Afro’ are remixes. It can make the mood of a song completely change and allow you to approach it with fresh ears, even change the way you see the band.”

A. Savage had this to say about working with Mikey Young: “Mikey has always impressed me as a musician and person, but he’s developed a remarkable talent for producing electronic music, as evidenced by projects like Lace Curtain and Total Control. He has a skill of impressing his genius and personality into a track and elevating it to something more.”

Danny Krivit is a legendary 61-year-old New York DJ.

Previously Parquet Courts shared Wide Awake!‘s first single, “Almost Had to Start a Fight/In and Out of Patience” (which was one of our Songs of the Week), as well as a video for “Wide Awake” (which was our #1 Song of the Week). They also stopped by Ellen to perform “Wide Awake” (note: unlike the album title, the song doesn’t feature an explanation point), which is a song Ellen DeGeneres “loves very much,” so said the host when introducing the band. And they shared a video for “Mardi Gras Beads” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week). They also stopped by BBC Radio 6 where they did a cover of Ramones’ “Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World,” a song from the iconic punk band’s self-titled debut from 1976.

Wide Awake! is the band’s fifth album and the follow-up to 2016’s excellent Human Performance. Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton) is a fan of Parquet Courts and approached the band about working with them.
