Premiere: No New Lovers Shares New Single “Lay Them Down”
Debut EP Origin is Out on July 1st
Jun 03, 2026
Los Angeles-based duo No New Lovers debuted in 2024 with a steady string of new singles, coupling analog and electronic textures around tactile grooves, warm production, and genre-fluid songcraft. The project sees musicians and producers Jay and Kaz dipping into psych pop, dance, soul, and indietronica, and the pair have kept up their restless streak this year, releasing two new singles, “Doubtcaster” and “Cycles,” while teasing their upcoming debut EP, Origin.
Today, they’re back with the EP’s latest single, “Lay Them Down,” premiering with Under the Radar.
“Lay Them Down” represents another turn for No New Lovers, moving away from the nervy rhythms and fizzy electronics of their previous two singles. Instead, the duo leans into broad and emotive indie pop, sprawling out with ringing keys, spacious grooves, and ascendant vocal harmonies. However, Jay and Kaz also retain their penchant for intimate production and textural contrasts, at one point letting the track fade into a spectral swirl of percussion and wordless a cappella melody. These adventurous, free-flowing moments eventually cohere into a powerful finale as the backing vocals soar for one last euphoric chorus: “I gave my love away / It pulls me underground / Troubles hang on all day It’s time to lay them down “
The pair says of the track, “‘Lay Them Down’ is a positive take on a breakup. It was written on a camping trip in Death Valley, and we had a vision of a choir singing the chorus at the end. We reached out to the Dynamic House Choir in Nigeria, and they took the chorus to another level. We are very grateful for them.”
Check out the song below. The Origin EP is out everywhere on July 1st.
