No New Lovers is a new duo based out of Los Angeles making a psych-tinged blend of pop, dance, and soul. Together, the anonymous pair hit on a euphoric production style that emphasizes organic instrumentation and analog elements while burnishing them with a digitized sheen. They debuted this summer with their first single, “The Fool,” before releasing another new track last month, “Existing is Exhausting.” Today, the duo is sharing their latest single, “Waiting On You,” premiering with Under the Radar.

Compared to the two preceding singles, “Waiting On You” is most clearly influenced by dance music, specifically the warm sun-dappled side of house music. The track’s immersive beat steadily builds over the seven-minute runtime, opening in a simmering, dreamy space, supported by blooming synth textures and starry vocal melodies. In the track’s latter half, the groove takes to the forefront of the mix, launching into a dazzling space that is equal parts lush and propulsive.

Yet, the track’s yearning lyrics and spacey production also color the euphoric highs with a hint of melancholy: “She’s staring at the phone line / I’m lookin for the right time / She’s hoping for a note / That won’t arrive / I’m writing to a ghost / From another life.” As the pair describe, they’ve coined the style of the track as Emotional Dance Music.
