Robyn released a new album, Honey, her first in eight years, back in October 2018 via Konichiwa/Interscope. Now she has shared a video for “Between the Lines.” Cody Critcheloe (aka SSION) directed the video, which a press release says is inspired by Wham!‘s “Club Tropicana” video.

Critcheloe had this to say about the video in a press release: “Robyn is one of my favorite artists to collaborate with and making this video with her allowed for a lot of playfulness in embracing the extremes of being in a place like Ibiza… the aggressive tackiness of tourist culture slapped up against the serene beach vibes… it reminded me of when I first started making videos on a mini dv camera - no pretense, DIY, run & gun… just being in the moment. We also wanted to keep the edit rude and leave in a lot of the in-camera audio of us giggling, talking & screaming- just a complete disregard for pop music video formalities to create something that feels very fun and alive.”

Honey includes “Missing U,” a new song (and accompanying short film) she shared in August (it was one of our Songs of the Week). An earlier version of the album’s title track, “Honey,” appeared in the series finale of HBO’s Girls last year and then she shared the final version of the song as the album’s second single. Robyn fans had been eager for her to release the song ever since its Girls debut, with some using the hashtag #ReleaseHoneyDamnit. Then she shared the third single from the album, “Human Being,” which features Zhala. Then she shared a video for “Honey.”

Honey is the follow-up to 2010’s Body Talk. The album finds the Swedish musician teaming up Joseph Mount (of Metronomy) and also features production work from long-time collaborator Klas Åhlund, along with Adam Bainbridge (aka Kindness), Mr. Tophat, and Zhala. It was recorded in studios in Stockholm, London, Paris, New York, and Ibiza.

Robyn had this to say about the album in a previous press release: “This sweet place, like a very soft ecstasy. Something that’s so sensual, and so good. I danced a lot when I was making it. I found a sensuality and a softness that I don’t think I was able to use in the same way before. Everything just became softer.”
