British post-punk band Snapped Ankles are releasing a new album, Hard Times Furious Dancing, on March 28 via The Leaf Label. Now they have shared its third single, “Smart World,” via a music video. Watch it below.

A press release says “the track explores the rise of AI in music via an imagined conversation between Brian Eno and the late Conny Plank. While both embraced tech which might once have been perceived as removing the human from the musical equation, in this conversation Eno is pro-AI and Plank is the skeptic,” adding that the song’s video is “a wholly unauthorized performance video featuring Plank and Eno, which raises more ethical questions than it answers.”

“I figured Conny’s the one who’ll break first, and go ‘No, you’ve got to go the hard way around,’” the band’s Ankle Austin explains. “Eno will be more like, ‘Fuck yeah, let’s go! Let’s put our brains in a tub and post it to Mars!’”

Previously Snapped Ankles shared the album’s “Raoul,” which made our Songs of the Week list. Then they shared its second single, “Pay the Rent,” also one of our Songs of the Week.

The band’s last album, Forest of Your Problems, came out in 2021 via The Leaf Label. Read our review of that album here.
