Janelle Monáe released a new album, Dirty Computer, today via Atlantic. Now you can stream the whole thing below. The album features Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, Zoë Kravitz, Pharrell Williams, and Grimes. She’s has also shared an accompanying science fiction film, “an emotion picture” also titled Dirty Computer. It starts with Monáe as a “dirty computer” who needs to be wiped, which leads to us seeing some of those memories, interconnected music videos featuring songs from the album. Actress Tessa Thompson (who starred as Valkyrie in last year’s superhero hit Thor: Ragnarok and was also in Westworld) also stars. You can also watch the movie below. Previously she shared a science fiction-themed teaser trailer for the album featuring both Monáe and Thompson, as well as videos for “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane” (which both made our Songs of the Week list). Then Monáe shared a video for another new song, “PYNK.” “PYNK” featured Grimes, although she was not in the video, which instead featured Monáe, Thompson, and friends in a pink hover car and partying in the dessert. (“PYNK” was also one of our Songs of the Week.) Then she shared the audio for “I Like That,” plus a video for “I Like That.”

It’s been five years since Monáe’s last album, 2013’s The Electric Lady. In that time she has launched her acting career, with notable roles in the movies Hidden Figures and Moonlight, as well as guest starring in the Amazon Prime sci-fi anthology series Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
