Janelle Monáe Announces New Album, Shares Sci-Fi Teaser Trailer Featuring Tessa Thompson
Dirty Computer is "An Emotion Picture"
Janelle Monáe has announced a new album and shared a teaser trailer for it. It's entitled Dirty Computer and doesn't have an announced release date as yet. The tracklist and cover art are both forthcoming too, as is any music from the album. The teaser trailer has a science fiction vibe and features both Monáe and actress Tessa Thompson (who starred as Valkyrie in last year's superhero hit Thor: Ragnarok and was also in Westworld). The trailer describes the album as "an emotion picture" and its YouTube description describes that as "a narrative film and accompanying musical album." The trailer is expected to air before select Black Panther screenings this weekend.
It's been five years since Monáe's last album, 2013's The Electric Lady. In that time she has launched her acting career, with notable roles in the movies Hidden Figures and Moonlight, as well as guest starring in the Amazon Prime sci-fi anthology series Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams.
