German Band An Influence on the Soundtrack
Sep 12, 2016 S U R V I V E
Netflix’s recent show Stranger Things has become a culture phenomenon and was probably the most talked about new TV show of the summer. Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of the Austin-based synthesizer band S U R V I V E composed the show’s John Carpenter-esque score, which is almost just as acclaimed. Dixon and Stein have also cited German electronic legends Tangerine Dream as an influence on the score and now the band have returned the favor and covered two sections of the score. Listen below.
Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese passed away in 2015 but the rest of the band are going on without him. Stranger Things costars Winona Ryder and is inspired by such ‘80s classics as Poltergeist, E.T., and The Goonies. Season 2 is due in 2017. Lakeshore Records are releasing two volumes of the soundtrack. Volume one of the soundtrack is out now digitally and gets a physical release on September 16, with volume two is also out now digitally and physically on September 23.
