Under the moniker Bayonne, Austin-based musician Roger Sellers has spent the last decade making glassy, electronic-tinged psych pop. His music brims with layered textures and colorful melodic detours, often diverting into free-floating dream pop and woozy folktronica while retaining a starry, euphoric flourish. After sharing his 2023 album, Temporary Time, and following with a series of remixes from the record, Sellers returned this year with a pair of new singles, “Multiphase” and “January.”

Earlier this spring, he shared another new track, “Oxygen,” and announced the upcoming release of his latest album, Filters. Today, he’s back with his latest single, “Gamut,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Gamut” is rich and densely layered. The opening run of keys fades into a lilting psych pop guitar groove, only for a tide of stuttering drums to sweep in and dominate the mix. It is a coupling of maximalist impulses and off-kilter aesthetics, yet the results are still lilting and pretty, especially in the moments where Sellers’ vocals dance alone above the spacious keys. His vocals lend a dreamy presence, offering a perfect accompaniment as the song flits between beauty and surreality with impressive ease.

Similarly, Sellers lyrics meditate on feelings of otherness and confusion, searching for a place of belonging while constantly feeling on the outside: “Somewhere out on the ocean there’s a wave I’m sure to ride / Just as long as I find whatever’s inside / Outsider, saw you looking in / Let me know next time / Right side up, lost and found again / When will all of this settle in.”

“‘Gamut’ is a little more abstract than my other songs,” Sellers says. “It’s about how we all feel when we feel like an outsider — in the broader sense of trying to find yourself in a really complex world. Accepting that things just go and go and go, and sometimes it’s okay to just be lost.”
