Lauren Mayberry of Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES and Matt Berninger of The National and EL VY have interviewed each other for Live Nation TV. Mayberry and Berninger sat down together before the Treasure Island festival in San Francisco in October. At the festival Mayberry got up on stage with The National to perform The National’s “I Need My Girl.” Watch the video interview below as they talk about the challenges of performing, how neither can play guitar, fame, how Berninger screwed up The National’s first ever SXSW performance, and how Mayberry took hip-hop dance classes at a community center to help her with CHVRCHES.
CHVRCHES’ well-received second album, Every Open Eye, is out now via Glassnote. CHVRCHES were on the cover of our last print issue and recent we posted the in-depth 8-page 5,600-word cover story feature on the band to our website and you can read that here. You can also read our recent bonus digital magazine Q&A with them here.
EL VY (the project of The National’s frontman Matt Berninger and former Menomena member Brent Knopf, who also records as Ramona Falls) released their excellent debut album, Return to the Moon, at the end of October via 4AD. EL VY are on the cover of our current print issue.
