Yeasayer’s Anand Wilder to Release Musical, “Break Line”
Featuring Members of Dirty Projectors, Man Man
May 30, 2014 Yeasayer
Years before helping found Yeasayer, guitarist Anand Wilder was working on a musical with his friend and composer Maxwell Kardon. Working on the project in fits and starts between Yeasayer albums, the pair will finally release their work to audiences on July 15 via Secretly Canadian. Titled Break Line The Musical, the plot stems from “a labor conflict in a Western Pennsylvania coal town that (Wilder and Kardon’s) fathers had learned about from an old folk song taught in Quaker schools in the 1950s,” according to a press release.
Calling in some back-up to help with the effort, Wilder and Kardon recruited some familiar names for the cast, including Yeasayer bandmate Chris Keating, Dirty Projectors’ Haley Dekle, Man Man’s Ryan Kattner, and Suckers’ Quinn Walker and Austin Fisher. Also involved in the production’s backing band are Yeasayer’s Ira Wolf Tuton, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, many others.
In anticipation of the release, Wilder and Kardon have shared the included number “Wedding Day.” Click below to listen.
