Depeche Mode are releasing a new album, Spirit, on March 17 via Columbia. The album was announced back in October and previously the band shared the album’s first single, “Where’s the Revolution.” Now the song has video. Longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn directed the mainly black & white clip, which plays off the themes of the song and its repeated chorus of “Where’s the revolution/Come on people you’re letting me down.” Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
The band have also announced that for the next year, each day they are allowing a different fan to have full control over the band’s Facebook page, which currently has around seven million followers. Fans can apply at www.depechemode.com/takeover/apply.
A press release explains the concept in more detail: “Each selected fan will be assigned a day to take charge of the page. They can then share their Depeche Mode story by posting personal anecdotes, videos, concert photos, covers of the band’s songs, or other Depeche Mode-related content. Through this, the band hopes to uncover old, new, and never-before-told stories and content to be shared with the page’s millions of fans and followers.”
The press release also points out: “On select days throughout the year, curatorial duties will fall to special guests, including people close to the band and several high-profile artists and celebrities with a special connection or affinity for the band.”
Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford produced Spirit. Spirit is the follow-up to 2013’s Delta Machine. “The Global Spirit Tour” is a European stadium tour this summer, with North and South American tour dates promised for later in 2017. In partnership with the Swiss watchmaker Hublot, on the tour Depeche Mode will be raising money and awareness for Charity: Water, whose mission is to provide safe drinking water to everyone in the world.
