Apr 17, 2018 Father John Misty By Christopher Roberts

Back in February Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) shared a new song, “Mr. Tillman” (it was one of our Songs of the Week). Now he has announced a new album, God’s Favorite Customer, which is due out June 1 via Sub Pop worldwide (except for Europe, where it’s on Bella Union) and includes “Mr. Tillman.” As Pitchfork and Stereogum both report, an iTunes New Zealand listing spilled the beans early (the album hasn’t been officially announced by Tillman or Sub Pop yet). As Stereogum reports, an oversees Spotify listing indicates that two songs from the album, “Just Dumb Enough to Try” and “Disappointing Diamonds Are the Rarest of Them All,” will be released soon. Below is the album’s tracklist and above is its cover art. Below also is “Mr. Tillman” again.

Father John Misty released his latest album, Pure Comedy, in April 2017 via Sub Pop (it was Under the Radar‘s #1 Album of 2017 So Far in our midyear wrap up and #9 in our final Top 100 Albums of 2017 list).

Tillman said in July 2017 he was almost done with his next album and that it would be due out in 2018. Also in a November 2017 with the British music magazine Uncut Tillman shed some more light on his next album and also revealed some of its potential song titles. In the interview Tillman described the new album as “the real I Love You, Honeybear but without the cynicism,” referencing his 2015 album.
