San Francisco via New York City artist lucky break has shared the video for “Pictures of Herself”, taken from her debut album made it!, out now via Fire Records.

Directed by close friend and regular collaborator Margaret Elle, the clip moves between a pink bedroom and open farmland, continuing a visual narrative running through the album. The pair drew on the music videos of Liz Phair and Elliott Smith in putting it together, with lucky break noting a specific reference to Smith’s “Rose Parade” video in a scene where she plays guitar flanked by two friends. The extras include her little sister and Elle’s childhood best friend.

Lucky break says of the concept: “Originally, I had an idea where all of the music videos, when played in order, told some kind of story. In my mind, this pink room is where lucky break wakes up after she crawls through the tunnel in ‘Crush.’”

made it! came together after lucky break fell in love for the first time, moved abroad to teach English, got ghosted, fell ill and found herself confined to her bedroom. The eleven tracks that followed became her first proper collection of songs. She says the album “captures my life from 19 to 23 as I was going through major transitions, finding my inner compass and figuring out how to live in alignment with my values.”

Produced by Grammy-nominated engineer Jessica Thompson and co-producer Elliott Woodbridge, the record pulls from pop, country, 90s indie and alt-folk, with Pavement, Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams, John Prine and Joni Mitchell all finding their way into the mix.

lucky break is touring US cities this summer, with select dates alongside Nashville artist Maisy Owen. You can find more details here
