Foxygen released a new album, Hang, back in January via Jagjaguwar. Previously the duo (Jonathan Rado and Sam France) shared “America,” a grandiose track that featured an orchestra, as well as the dance-tastic video for “Follow the Leader” and a video for “On Lankershim.” Now here’s a video for “Upon a Hill,” a short 1:43 minute track. Alessandra Lichtenfeld directed the clip, which features France in a dark room interacting with demonic toys. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Foxygen issued the following statement about the video: “‘Upon a Hill’ is an excerpt from our new Musical experience, Hang. It features a performance by Sam, shot on 16mm film by the director Alessandra Lichtenfeld. The rest of the cast is made up of the circuit-bent nightmare babydoll creations of Yuliya Lanina.”
Foxygen’s last album was 2014’s ...And Star Power. A previous press release described Hang as “their first proper studio record.” Every song on Hang features a 40-plus-piece orchestra arranged and conducted by Trey Pollard. Matthew E. White also did additional arranging. The Lemon Twigs (aka brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario) were the band’s rhythm section, which makes sense since Rado produced their recent debut album, Do Hollywood. Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips also guests on select tracks.
