Band of Horses: “Laredo” Video

Band of HorsesInfinite Arms wasn’t too thrilling, but true country-rock crooners persevere. The Southern band’s new video for “Laredo” features lots of footage of the band cruising down California State Route 62. The pretty clip (below) was lensed in Pioneertown, Calif. and includes some footage of BoH performing at the hole-in-the-wall venue, Pappy and Harriet’s. In related news, skin-beater Creighton Barrett stars in the new indie film Nightfur, which will comes out on September 10. BoH’s tunes are also featured in the flick. Go here for upcoming tour dates.

Hey dance music fans, here’s another tune off Matthew Dear‘s forthcoming third album, Black City. It’s called “Soil to Seed” and it gallops on the back of a sultry steed. Also, make sure to watch the LP trailer below. It’s a stark, Metropolis-like montage of neo-gothic images cast against Dear’s new song suite. Black City arrives via Dear’s own Ghostly International on August 17. Stream portions of the new LP at the Ghostly Store. Also, download the top-tapping album cut, “I Can’t Feel,” at Dear’s website.

What, you thought just because / \ / \ / \ Y / \ has been released to the wild, M.I.A. was done? Nope! Last night, she (and a bunch of look alikes) took The Late Show with David Letterman by storm with some “Born Free” feedback. The only thing that was missing was dancing spacebars. Big Boi

The Roots

“Shutterbugg” (Ft. The Roots, Live on Jimmy Fallon) Video

Big Boi is performing this Sunday at the Pitchfork Music Festival, but last night he jammed his super hot single “Shutterbugg” for Jimmy Fallon‘s party people. Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (out now) is the best hip-hop album of 2010 and this performance cemented that assertion.

Big Boi stopped by Leno last week, but here he’s joined by The Roots crew. Questlove added live drumming to the funk-as-f#&k cut. You’re bound to watch this one again and again. (Via Prefix Mag.)

Flying Lotus

“Mmmhmm” Video

Watch on YouTube

“Mmmhmm” is off Flying Lotus’ album-of-the-year-worth LP Cosmogramma and features bassist Thundercat (Sa-Ra Collective, Erykah Badu, SuicidalTendencies) and the ultra-psychedelic track got even more head-trippy today via its hallucinatory video. (Via P4k.)

The clip was lensed by the Special Problems directing team (commissioned by Warp Films) and sees strange characters floating in space. Before long a Native American version of Super Mario Bros. 2 morphs into a bad acid trip/Winamp visualizer. Oh, and there’s also lovely ladies floating on gigantic ganja leaves. Basically, enjoy the ride.

Also, check out the embedded short film, Inside the Codex: The Art of Cosmogramma, below. It’s helmed by Flying Lotus, and features album cover artist Leigh J McCloskey. Check out Flying Lotus gig dates at his website for even more trippy visuals.
