Menomena‘s mines finally streets July 27 via Barsuk. The eleven-song release is currently streaming at NPR, who noted that the Portland threesome’s fourth LP cover is a stereogram: “If you hold the cardboard cover art so you can see both the back and front at the same time, the statue on the front and back cover will appear to be 3D.”
We’ve already heard “FIVE LITTLE ROOMS,” but now we have its second download: the yelpy, blues-rocker “Taos.” Man, these dudes rarely stick to one melody, or even two. (Note: that’s entirely a good thing.)
Pre-order here with options to snatch a glow-in-the-dark poster, “Rabbit Tree” t-shirt, double 7-inch, or poster. Menomena hits the road in September.
Panda Bear
“Alsatian Darn” (Live at Pitchfork Festival) MP3
Jul 19, 2010
We’ve already let you hear Panda Bear‘s ”Tomboy” b/w “Slow Motion,” the first in a phalanx of singles on different imprints leading up to Noah Lennox’s fourth LP. Those older tracks will be available digitally through iTunes tomorrow. Later this summer, Domino will release “You Can Count On Me” as the second single with B-side, “Alsatian Darn.” The latter is one of the new songs Lennox unrolled at his Pitchfork Festival set on Saturday night (his birthday).
To put it very lightly, his performance has received mixedreactions, but the King Tubby-sampling cut has its fleeting moments of bliss. The soundboard-sourced MP3 of “Alsatian Darn,” confirms many of the negative reports of whale yelping. Possible redemption comes in the form of a fan-made clip of “Surfer’s Hymn” and “Ponytail,” where Lennox actually eeks out a melody or two. Tomboy is out in September on Paw Tracks. Panda Bear will bring his yodeling (errr music) to more unsuspecting audiences this fall. (Via Stereogum.)

Dominant Legs
“Clawing Out at the Walls” MP3
Jul 18, 2010
Last November, when San Francisco’s Girlsdropped a guitarist, Dominant Legs’ Ryan William Lynch filled in as an ax man. He’s still with Girls this summer, but on August 17 he’ll release his solo debut EP, Young at Love and Life, with Hannah Hunt (vocals, keys). The incredibly busy Lefse will put out the four-song release. The duo’s glossy, Cults-esque tweak on AM pop immediately bends your ear. “Clawing Out at the Walls”‘s pitter-patter soul is a pleasant introduction to the rest of their funky daze. Enjoy. DL will support Mystery Jets’ Serotonintour in Los Angeles and New York this September.
London new-rave punks Klaxons will unleash their sophomore LP, Surfing the Void, on August 23 via Polydor. A week before, (August 16), single “Echoes” drops. Check out its desert performance clip below. A North American string of dates is scheduled to behind in September. Check out all the gig information at MySpace. (Via Pitchfork.tv.)
Say hello to “Meet Me in the Basement,” the intense, fan-made, found-footage vid for Broken Social Scene‘s Forgiveness Rock Record protest anthem. It was filmed as a response to the June G20 Summit riot in the band’s hometown of Toronto, and mashes together riot squad footage with epileptic bursts of pop idols, video games, cartoons, and general Web 2.0 detritus.
According to the supergroup, “This video was sent to us by a lover of our music who wants to remain anonymous. We are very proud to share this mash-up with you.” Watch it above. Tour dates can be peeped here.

Cut Copy
“Where I’m Going” MP3
Jul 15, 2010
Australian synth-rock threesome Cut Copy are hard at work on their self-produced third LP, set to drop early 2011 via Modular. The tribal and Beach Boys-esque “Where I’m Going” will probably appear on the new full-length. See upcoming gigs at CC’s MySpace. The band will mix the album with Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley) this August. If you want “Where I’m Going” on vinyl, it will be released as a very limited, one-sided etched 7-inch next month.
Hey psych-funk-no wave-pop fans, please check out the brand new False Priest teaser trailer put together by of Montreal‘s Kevin, David, and Nina Barnes. The vid features snippets of False Priest jams such as “Our Riotous Defects,” “Godly Intersex,” and “Enemy Gene” (featuring R&B songstress Janelle Monáe).” Also, click over to Polyvinyl‘s e-store for info on pre-ordering the new album. Over half of the limited edition red vinyl is already gone.
The following uncapitalized statement arrived with the clip: “here’s a fragmented glimpse into the wednesday wilderness of the false priest, as you can see and hear, the controllersphere has been liberated from self restraint, although the laws of punishment dreams do still apply, all’s fair in the pursuit of transhuman singularity.” Word, yo. See tour dates here.
