Deerhunter

“Revival” MP3

Jul 22, 2010

Deerhunter knows all about good karma. Case in point: earlier this month, the indie-rockers asked fans to help promote upcoming fourth LP, Halcyon Digest, (out September 28 via 4AD) by printing out posters and placing them all over telephone poles, walls, grocery stores, and subway tunnels. (Not on private properties, of course.) To thank their fans, the Atlanta quartet unveiled the full-length’s cover art and tracklist to the street-teamers before anyone else. Well industrious mega-fans, it’s your lucky day again. You get first dibs on Halcyon Digest‘s shuffling debut single, “Revival.”

Neon Indian: “6669 (I Don’t Know If You Know)” Video

Chill wave laptop artist Neon Indian paints dreamy, psychedelic soundscapes. Makes sense then, that new video for Psychic Chasms cut “6669 (I Don’t Know If You Know)” features dreamy, psychedelic-albeit creepy-visuals. Worth a watch for the stop-action artistry, but agoraphobics beware-there’s a whole lotta buggy action going on. Also, download “Psychic Chasms” (Apache Beat Remix). Tour dates can be peeped at Neon’s MySpace. João Machado directed the clip. (Via Pitchfork.) - Laura Studarus

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

“Vocal Chords” MP3

Jul 20, 2010

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott) hail from Detroit, Mi., which pretty much explains the band name. The ascendant twosome will release a four-track EP, called Horse Power, July 27 via home state imprint, Quite Scientific. Their sound is a colorful mix of electro-pop and rock they cover electronic pop and folk, and they cover The Beach Boys’s “God Only Knows” for the release’s closing number. (How fitting.) Original tune, “Vocal Chords,” is a sparse choral-pop tune made for this season. Also, check out the slower tempo of “Nothing But Our Love.” Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. definitely wins the prize for “Largest Disconnect Between a Band’s Name and Its Sound.”
