After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a slight box office disappointment and faired even less well with critics and fans, Sony finally saw the light and agreed to let Marvel use the character in their Cinematic Universe, starting with Captain America: Civil War and then a new Spider-Man movie to be a joint production between Marvel and Sony. Immediately there was speculation over whether Andrew Garfield would continue in the role. He was generally well-liked as Spider-Man, but Marvel had other plans and after a much reported-on casting process they’ve found their new Spider-Man/Peter Parker, 19-year-old British actor Tom Holland. They have also lined up indie film director Jon Watts to direct the next Spider-Man film.
