Magdalena Bay Share Two New Songs: “Unoriginal” and “Black-Eyed Susan Climb”

They Follow Four Other New Songs They’ve Released Recently

Los Angeles-based electro-pop duo Magdalena Bay have released two new songs, “Unoriginal” and “Black-Eyed Susan Climb.” Check out both songs below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

They follow two new songs the band shared in September, “Second Sleep” and “Star Eyes.” Both made our Songs of the Week list. Then in October they released two other new songs, “Human Happens” and “Paint Me a Picture,” which also both landed on Songs of the Week.

Magdalena Bay are Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin.

“Two more songs?! When will it end?? Is this the final pair? Don’t think too hard about it,” the band collectively say in a press release. “Just let the good times ride.”

We’re not sure if all these songs are from a new album, a deluxe edition of Imaginal Disk, or a new EP (such as another one in their Mini Mix series). Or maybe they are just standalone singles.

The recent six songs follow Imaginal Disk, their acclaimed sophomore full-length album released last year on Mom + Pop. It was #1 on our Top 100 Albums of 2024 list. The band recently announced that a movie connected to the album will be released soon. Amanda Kramer directed it and Tenenbaum and Lewin wrote and edited it. The exact release date is TBA.

Imaginal Disk includes “Death & Romance,” a new song the band shared in May that was one of our Songs of the Week. Then they shared a sci-fi themed video for the song featuring UFOs, portals, and doppelgangers. When the album was announced, they shared its second single, “Image,” via a music video. “Image” was #1 on our Songs of the Week list. Then they shared its third single, “Tunnel Vision,” which again was #1 on our Songs of the Week. Then they shared its fourth single, “That’s My Floor,” via a trippy music video. It was again #1 on our Songs of the Week.

In October 2024 the band shared a remix of “Image” by Grimes titled “Image (Grimes Special)” that seemed to reference the classic holiday film A Christmas Story. A few days later Magdalena Bay made their late night TV debut performing “Image” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Imaginal Disk was the band’s sophomore full-length album and followed 2023’s mini mix vol. 3, a surprise-released seven-song EP and an accompanying short film that featured videos for every song. The EP’s “Wandering Eyes” made our Songs of the Week list.

In 2021, Magdalena Bay released their debut album, Mercurial World, which was one of our Top 100 Albums of 2021 and several songs from the album were featured on our Top 130 Songs of 2021 list. Then in 2022 they released a deluxe edition of the album that included several bonus tracks and remixes incorporated into the main tracklist of the original album, presenting a completely different listening experience.
