All-Star Section Eight #1

Oh lordy, DC, going back to a well whose narcotic waters we have missed a great deal.

Side characters in Garth Ennis and John McCrea’s Hitman the team called Section Eight is back courtesy of the original creators. Original members included Bueno Excelente, with the power of perversion; Dogwelder (self-explantory “power”); the leader, beer-bottle-wielding Six Pack; and Jean de Baton-Baton, whose power is that he is French. There’s a backgrounder on the kind of humor this property is known for.

In any case, this issue sees the re-transformation of a high-society fine artist back into Six Pack after accidentally falling off the wagon. And Six Pack wants to put the team back together…yet they’re largely dead. He manages to find seven and wants to recruit a certain Gotham mainstay for no. 8. But Bats just got a parking ticket. Top-notch crazy art by McCrea, funny story by Ennis. Great start for this six-issue mini. (www.dccomics.com)
