Art Ops Vol. 1

Art is quite literally alive in this story. The Art Ops version of protecting the Mona Lisa from a potential art theft was to free her from the canvas and place her into something like witness protection, a life of bagging groceries. Reggie wants nothing to do with Art Ops, but is conscripted to guard “Lisa” when most of the entire organization up and vanishes. And it may be the best place for the man to call home; after all, his right arm has been replaced with something out of a psychedelic painting, blobs and streaks of bright paint angling to take over the rest of his body. These and more wild, weird, art-as-supernature concepts come alive thanks to Shaun Simon, Mike Allred, and Matt Brundage, in clever, stylish fashion. The Statue of Liberty and Michelangelo’s David run amok; ignored art pieces show that art is not just bad, but it can be evil; and Reggie discovers more about his roots. Maybe a little disjointed in its “concepts per page” density taking priority over clean storytelling, but fun all the same. (www.vertigocomics.com)

Glad you liked it!  It is one of only two places I have had good Thai food in London, managing to actually get the balance of hot, sour and sweet, rather than just sweet (are all these Thai reaustrants in London secretly working for the sugar advisory board?).On a more random tip, the other place I have had great Thai food is actually a Thai supermarket on Shepherds Bush Road.  I recall the owners are from Bangkok, and the wife makes a load of dishes up for lunchtime takeaway.  The chicken laab, as well as the red curry are both fantastic.
