The concept has promise. A single-camera comedy taking place in a New York police department. Think The Office, but with cops.

Warner (Giovanni Ribisi) and Eli (Seth Green) are young, successful owners of a video game company whose fathers, Crawford (Martin Mull) and David (Peter Riegert), move in with them.

It’s hard to know where to begin when it comes to the stupidity of Sleepy Hollow, a “modern spin” on Washington Irving’s legend starring British thespian Tom Mison as a time-travelling Ichabod Crane and relative newcomer Nicole Beharie as his sidekick.

There are a lot of reasons Broadchurch shouldn’t be so enjoyable. Its premise is as dated as television itself—a mysterious murder in a quiet village where anyone can be the suspect—and it takes one of the U.K.‘s most well-known and beloved international TV stars, David Tennant (Doctor Who), and makes him as drab and unlikeable as he could be. Yet, despite the blasé ingredients, Broadchurch is a remarkably impressive and moving series.

HBO’s The Newsroom is back, and for now it seems writer/showrunner Aaron Sorkin has taken some of the criticism of its first season to heart. It’s still plenty Sorkin-y—full of witty banter between media elites who are ever so brilliant at economics and foreign policy, but can’t manage to maintain a steady relationship—but the long, wordy, politically thick conversations are more seamlessly interwoven between dramatic moments.

A body is found precisely on the Mexico/US border and two agents, one from either nation’s jurisdiction, are fighting over it.

Season 8 is set to be the last for Showtime’s Dexter. Probably a good thing, too. Dexter has had some tremendous peaks during its run—the gripping first season, John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer, and the gut-punching Season 4 finale, to name a few—but it’s also spent a little too much time slogging around in a mess of uninspired plots and redundant conflicts.

Right out of the gate, there’s no way Under the Dome, a new sci-fi drama miniseries for CBS, can miss. Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Under the Dome is the story of Chester’s Mill, Maine, a familiar King-ian small town, contending with an impenetrable clear dome that suddenly and completely surrounds its city limits, leaving those on either side stuck and unable to cross.

Framed by the Five Points neighborhood of New York City of 1865, Copper places itself in a richly vibrant setting. Kevin “Corky” Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones) is an Irish detective whose moral compass may be properly aimed but the churning turmoil wrought by social, political, and personal upheaval keeps him frayed.
