Five, hour-long episodes to stretch out a relatively simple, if unfamiliar story about familial trauma. Set in rural Quebec, the series is divided into two plotlines. The first, taking place in 2019, follows the four grown children of the Larouche family. The second plotline is set almost thirty years earlier. It follows the children during their turbulent youth and explains the reasons for their eventual fallout.

The irony of the streaming service that demolished Blockbuster creating a show that points to nostalgia for the very concept it killed is thankfully not lost on the makers of Blockbuster, a new ten-part workplace comedy from creator Vanessa Ramos.

Guillermo Del Toro’s new eight-part series, Cabinet of Curiosities, takes its cues from shows of mature vintage. Rod Serling’s The Night Gallery and Alfred Hitchcock Presents come to mind as Del Toro himself introduces us to the tales behind the strange objects in his titular ornate cabinet. Like his predecessors, he cuts an avuncular figure: welcoming, and with just the right amount of foreboding.

If you like your food themed show hosts to be brooding, mercurial, or excitedly in your face, Somebody Feed Phil will not be your cup of tea. Phil is the consummate nice guy, who also happens to be animatedly goofy, may not be for everyone.

Rhaenys is given the opportunity to make this a one-season show, with Otto, Alicent and their offspring staring down the mouth of Meleys.

In an episode that feels like both a season finale and a season premiere, House of the Dragon takes us through our final time skip, picking up six years after the last two episodes for a final gathering of our main cast before the realm becomes engulfed in fire and blood.

This week’s episode features the final two tragedies: the blinding of Aemond Targaryen by his half-nephew Lucerys Velaryon, and the death of Laenor Velaryon.

Ramy is determined to do better, grow up and take life seriously. Don’t read that as he has now got it all figured out. He definitely does not, but he’s trying, two steps forward, three steps back.

House of the Dragon has done an excellent job of staying true to, and even improving upon Martin’s work, this latest episode is shows signs of narrative strain, even as the performances and character work remain excellent.
