Delilah Bon is one of the most important artists for women and people in minority groups right now. She simultaneously embodies feminist, queer, trans, POC and other minorities’ joy and their anger in her songs and performance. It shows through the shared anger that the songs allow people to express as well as the sense of safety and compassion between both the crowd and the band.

Delilah Bon and her band are incredible performers in their own right shown in the energy and connection to the fans. She fuses hip hop and nu metal in such a gritty and expressive way that it is obvious how she has sold out her shows on the UK tour. Becky Baldwin (the UK’s busiest bass player) completely drew me in by her stage presence and virtuosic playing. The rest of the band are no exception, Anya Jasmine (guitar) was utterly phenomenal, embodying the power of the music with her insane riffs somehow elevating the songs further as well as Sam Williams (drums) with all the atmosphere and power that you could ever want from Delilah Bon’s drummer. They make a very fierce ensemble. Although I have to confess Delilah Bon has been a personal favourite of mine for many years now but seeing her and the band live only reinforced why this is.

Her new song “Bush” brings so much energy and empowerment to those with female anatomy whilst also throwing away strange body standards for female presenting people. A personal favourite of mine “I Wish a Bitch Would” captures the anger and trauma of SA victims, an ever important topic as we face a Sexual Violence Epidemic and Abortion Ban in America. Another highlight was “Not The President” being a little more instrumentally stripped back, creating space for Delilah’s raw and powerful vocals as she went into the crowd and held hands with a few fans, she highlights the need and brings together a community of people, that have faced so much just for being them.

In a world where women and minorities feel like they are utterly doomed by the silence imposed on them and the noise of repressive and ignorant political parties, Delilah Bon holds the hand of everyone of her fans and for once in that room being who you are is a whole lot less lonely and a whole lot more empowering. If you haven’t gone to see them yet you absolutely should if you can! I am already looking forward to when she is back in Notts!
