After calling his inexplicably-named and indeterminably classifiable project quits in 2011, Marc Bianchi has resurrected Her Space Holiday with a four-song EP of new material. Titled Gravity, and borrowing a page from The Postal Service, Bianchi melds synthetic beats, dreamy synths, and just the right amount of guitar bursts into hooky bedroom pop that rocks.
The lyrical angle is mostly obtuse and delivered with an upbeat, back porch, indie-rock charm that creates an offbeat synergy that’s not always sweet and graceful but always unpretentious and tasteful.
Her Space Holiday have always had a knack for combining slick, Pinback-like, syncopated beats with simple and quirky guitar bits and clever synth hooks. It’s nice to see that even after a seven-year hiatus this trait continues. Contemporary and sophisticated through its simplicity, the squelchy beats and sparkling synths on Gravity are polished to perfection with a crisp and clear production.
This new material is whimsical, original, and satisfying and will hopefully generate enough positivity to convince Bianchi to continue with Her Space Holiday and even put out a new full-length. (www.herspaceholiday.com)
