Jamiroquai returned after seven years away, opening their new tour to a completely sold out crowd at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. Fans wrapped around the arena in every direction before the doors even opened. Even in a massive stadium their unmistakable funky sound filled the space and their production, built almost entirely around video screens, created immersive worlds from space shuttle take-offs to futuristic Egyptian scenes with a pyramid of lights. They played extended versions of classics for nearly two and a half hours and debuted material from their upcoming album, now in its finishing stages. A pure crowd pleaser from start to finish. Jamiroquai continues to command European audiences with a force that American festivals would treat as a hall of fame highlight. Someone needs to get Jay Kay, his Adidas tracksuit, and his many yes many hats onto US stages as soon as possible.
