The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads

Mute

Feb 09, 2017 Web Exclusive

All it takes is a run through opening track “Just As Was Told” to find yourself committed to the full double-album ride of Lift to Experience’s remarkable 2001 release, The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads. Unfolding in varying musical sections over nearly seven minutes, biblical references are sprinkled over a startling mix involving elements of My Bloody Valentine, Slint, and math rock that drive into a slow-burning, beatific finish and set the bar high for all that follows.

Such an ambitious and accomplished work begs thoughts of what might have followed had the Denton, Texas trio not gone their separate ways after releasing their crowning achievement and sole album. But with tracks pushing the 10-minute mark and a closer that rolls for nearly a half-hour, it’s not hard to imagine everything that needed to be said and done having been laid at the Crossroads.

This reissue of The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads arrives in various formats, including a deluxe box set containing their 2001 Peel session and a 1997 demo EP, along with a new mix of the album. (www.facebook.com/lifttoexperience)
