Man Up

There is something very wrong in a sitcom world when decisions are based on “What would Tobey Maguire do?” The Spider-Man actor is apparently the coolest guy in Man Up’s world. Which kind of makes sense, since the lame male chauvinist half-hour comedy is about a group of online video game playing adult males. The Spock-eared Will (Mather Zickel) leads the threadbare trio of buddies. Will’s brother-in-law Kenny (Danny Fogler) is reminiscent of Zach Galifianakis’ Hangover character and he can’t get over Will’s wife best friend. Christopher Moynihan, who also wrote and created the show, plays the overly sensitive Craig, who breaks up his college girlfriend’s wedding.
It seems like Man Up is trying to be the aforementioned The Hangover or the short-lived Fox sitcom Traffic Light. The porn term “fluffing” is established instead of the expletive that starts with the same letter and vagina is the derogatory term of choice in Man Up, which is both a shame since the only clever lines and likeable characters are the long-suffering ladies on the show: Teri Polo as Will’s wife Theresa and Amanda Detmer as her best friend, Brenda. Ironically, the women are the only characters that make Man Up barely tolerable. (www.abc.com/shows/man-up)

Was this really written by a woman or just some dude trying to make women look bad? I honestly can’t tell?

I saw the pilot and I thought it was hilarious. So nice to see a show that is actually funny, not in some kind of fake documentary style, and doesn’t have any voice over. Loved it. Also Patty’s comment is hilarious. It really does sound like someone doing a fake emotionally outraged PMS type hacky female character as a joke. She can’t be real and if she is, she’s ridiculous and needs to chill the F out.
