Flux of Pink Indians

Neu Smell (2024 Vinyl Reissue)

Flux of Pink Indians were an ’80s anarcho-punk band from Hertfordshire in the UK that existed from 1981 to 1986. This is a reissue of their 1st single and very first release, “Neu Smell,” but on a 12-inch instead of the original 7-inch. I’m guessing that this is a repress of the 2021 version, which saw One Little Independent reissuing this and also starting to reissue many other gems from the Crass Records back catalog as well.

All that said, it sounds astonishing on a 12-inch, and also includes fold-out style art featuring essays on animal rights and nuclear weapons that Crass was famous for, and the fold-out also features lyrics for each track and a high-quality inner sleeve as well. You really can’t go wrong with this one or any of the Crass Records reissues, to be honest. This is Flux at their most punk-sounding before the experiments of their later work, with the Crass-like “Tube Disasters” being the obvious classic here. (www.olirecords.com/shop/crass/neu-smell/)
