It seems Jeff Lemire can do no wrong. The prolific comic book author and artistwhose Descender was Under the Radar‘s staff pick for best comic book of 2015continues his unbeatable and unmatched streak of successes with Plutona. Co-created by Emi Lenox (EmiTown), who developed the story with Lemire and is its primary artist, Plutona follows five kids who stumble upon the body of their city’s most powerful superhero. Realizing the revelation of Plutona’s death could entice villains everywhere to chaos and bedlam, the youngsters agree to keep her demise under wraps. However, the secret nags at each of them, threatening to undermine their pact.

Lemire perfectly captures adolescence, when everything from the smallest slight to the grandest gesture can carry the weight of the world. His characters are deeply human, recognizable, and though young, engaging to readers of all ages. Plutona is the rare blend of nostalgia, youth, and superheroes that is sure to go down as one of 2016’s best comic books. (www.imagecomics.com)
