Earlier this month, The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse’s daring co-headling tour made a stop in Chicago at the Salt Shed Fairgrounds. Sadly, weather wasn’t on Modest Mouse’s side as severe thunderstorms stopped the indie rock veterans just five songs into their set.

They did manage to blast through a bevy of classics, though: “Trucker’s Atlas,” “Float On,” “Never Ending Math Equation,” “Wild Packs of Family Dogs” and “Dogbed/Sheetrock” were delivered with blistering energy despite the circumstances.

Despite frontman Isaac Brock insisting that “sometimes it fucking rains,” concertgoers were forced to shelter in place until conditions improved. The Flaming Lips did ultimately take the stage for a psychedelic and light-hearted performance. They opened with “Sleeping on the Roof” before jumping in “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” parts one and two.

The group also delivered live renditions of “Five Stop Mother Superior Rain,” a Chemical Brothers cover of “The Golden Path” and their timeless 1993 hit “She Don’t Use Jelly.” Under The Radar Magazine was there for the epic celebration—enjoy the photos that are enclosed below.
