Tanya Donelly and Chris Brokaw

The Undone is Done Again

Fire

Tanya Donelly (Belly, Throwing Muses, The Breeders) and Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine, and seemly endless other projects) have come together to collaborate for this four-song EP that is being specially released on yellow vinyl for Record Store Day 2026. But don’t read anything into Donelly and Brokaw’s collective histories in anticipating what their EP sounds like, because The Undone is Done Again is a collection of medieval folk songs.

Donelly’s vocals wind ethereally in and out of Brokaw’s hypnotic guitar passages. “Sainte Nicholaes” is haunting, with Donelly singing in Latin, as she does in “In Hoc Anni Circulo,” a Christmas hymn that sounds anything but redolent of a modern day holiday vibe. And the EP ends with “Plaudat Letitia,” Donelly singing as if from across the moors as Brokaw’s guitar gently shimmers and chimes, exemplifying the aura established throughout this EP. The Undone is Done Again is not a work typical of these players and it’s not for the faint of heart or the casual fan. It does, however, expand the legacy of these fine musicians in beatific, experimental form. (www.firerecords.com)
