Author Jason Vuic is good at writing about losers. His first book was a history of, as its title states, “the worst car in history,” the Yugo. Vuic’s most recent book chronicles the worst team in NFL history, the Tampa Bay Bucanneers, who lost its first 26 games, spanning two seasons, after its inception in 1976.

With The Yucks!, Vuic chronicles the team’s beginnings as an expansion team. He documents the hijinks of animated coach John McKay, the draft missteps, and the team’s historically terrible offense.

The book is engagingly written. For the most part, Vuic avoids making his tale read like a box score, although it does seem to bog down slightly when recounting details of the consecutive games lost. However, in the retelling of that 27th game, the team’s first win, the excitement Vuic portrays is palpable. The loveable losers that ignited a city back in 1976 were triumphant. For once. I enjoyed this book, the writer shows in a really close perspective all the moments of a NFL team. I agree with the 7/10
