Voxtrot

The last few years have been busy for the reunited 2000s-era indie-pop legends Voxtrot. In addition to releasing several new singles after their triumphant 2022 reunion tour (see review HERE), their first new album in nineteen years (Dreamers in Exile) was just released this past February (see review HERE).

As such, one would think that this tour stop (their first show here since 2022) would focus on said new album. And, up to a point, it did. After opening their set with “Another Fire” and “Fighting Back” (both from the new record) to a somewhat muted but still enthusiastic reaction, “Raised by Wolves” raised the energy level considerably, like it was 2006 again.

Thankfully, it didn’t let up for the duration of their entire fourteen-song set. Of these, no less than ten were from their 2000s heyday, with everything from their first single “The Start of Something” to “Kid Gloves” (from their self-titled 2007 debut album) to even their 2009 single “Berlin, Without Return” all receiving a rapturous reaction and applause, with many fans who looked way too young to have seen them back in the 2000s singing along to every word!

Therefore, it’s nice to see them back, thriving, and winning over a new generation of fans. In contrast to his hyper-energetic twenty-something self, singer/guitarist/pianist Ramesh Srivastava comfortably commanded the stage, alternating with ease among playing guitar for half the set, singing with just a microphone, and playing piano during some songs (most notably “Steven” and “Your Biggest Fan”). And on that note, it should be noted that while keyboardist Jack Van Norman has replaced non-touring member Jared Von Vleet, Von Vleet did make a surprise appearance on “Wrecking Force” and “Long Haul,” solidifying the friendly vibe, as Ramesh had noted throughout their set that friends and family members were in the audience.
