Under the Radar magazine is excited to announce the details of its first CMJ event, sponsored by PRS Guitars. The event will take place Wednesday, October 19 at Public Assembly in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn and kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Featuring performances from Eleanor Friedberger, Still Corners, The Stepkids, Porcelain Raft, Casiokids, and Chad Valley, the party is free and open to the public (21+), no CMJ badges or RSVP required. It's best to verbally engage
The Stepkids with a drink in your hand and plenty of time to chat. The Connecticut-based trio of Tim Walsh (percussion), Jeff Gitelman (guitar), and Dan Edinberg (bass/keyboard), (plus touring member Fred Dileone and projectionist Jesse Mann, who creates psychedelic light installations, projected directly on the band as they play), love music and can speak at great lengths about it, be it their ultimate guilty pleasure Steely Dan or collective favorite George Clinton, who they lovingly call George as they talk over each other to expound upon his genius.

"You're shockin' and jivin' me, baby!" So goes an interrupting lover-man voice on "Brain Ninja," the most over-the-top funkadelic storm on The Stepkids' self-titled debut. It's cringe-inducing and completely stupid to read on paper, but as the line percolates in a stew of '70s-styled, midnight psych-soul, it sounds somehow... groovy. More
