If you’ve ever wanted to relive those delicious evenings in your bedroom, adding safety pins to your wardrobe, rimming your eyes with kohl, and singing along to “How Soon Is Now,” you might be tempted to download Goth Cruise from IFC. Unfortunately, what promises to be a celebration of all things Goth and a delicious mixtape of Goth music turns out to be a cruise to nowhere.

Instead of a fun, playful investigation into the enduring allure of wearing black, we get an unfocussed mishmash of overgrown Goths with no discernible beginning, middle, or end—Goth Soup, if you will. One hundred and fifty Goths on a Caribbean cruise full of Norms—it seems like a story that could write itself. But this documentary is more tell than show. For a subculture that seems so inextricably bound to music, that connection is under explored. According to Goth Cruise, there’s just no there there. (http://www.gothcruisethemovie.com)
