Legends of Zita the Spacegirl
First Second
Oct 12, 2012 Issue #42 - The Protest Issue
This is a follow-up to 2011’s Zita the Spacegirl, but readers new to the series should have no trouble catching on. In this volume (written and illustrated by Ben Hatke), Zita, stranded far from Earth, learns some of the pitfalls of both fame and infamy as she strives to protect her friends, attempts to save an alien race, and ultimately keeps up the quest to find her way home. Her only weapons are the loyalty of her friends, her moral compass, and a penchant for taking action at the right time.
The imaginative visuals are beguiling, and the story hits broad strokes that ring true. The reader encounters even more cool characters, and this volume adds more strange creatures to Zita’s menagerie. This book has a place in any grade-schooler’s backpack, but chances are that adults will enjoy it as well. This is begging to be a Henson or Pixar movie. Fine all-ages action.
