Caribou: “Sun” Video

Old, middle-aged, and young women seductively dance in a room in this clip for Caribou‘s mantra-dance cut, “Sun.” A male dance trio drops by and there’s even some “Macarena” poses thrown in for good measure. Simon Owens lensed the creepy vid. While you’re at it, listen to the winners of the “Sun” Remix Contest at Caribou’s official site. The excellent tune is off Swim, which is out now via Merge. Purchase it here. The band will be touring all year. (Via P4k.tv.)

Les Savy Fav

“Let’s Get Out of Here” MP3

Jul 27, 2010

New York City indie-rock quintet Les Savy Fav released the first track off Root for Ruin today. The intense post-hardcore rocker is entitled “Let’s Get Out of Here.” Root for Ruin streets September 14 via bassist Syd Butler’s Frenchkiss imprint. Download the single via the widget below. It will also be released on iTunes tomorrow.

In related news, Root for Ruin leaked over the weekend. As a result, LSF have set up a PayPal account where fans can pay what they think it’s worth and quell the guilt of stealing the band’s fifth LP in the process. The band says, “Pay extra and you’re also forgiven for sex sins and stuff AND we’ll tell Jesus to send you cookies.” (Via P4k.)

Grinderman: “Heathen Child” MP3 Stream

The debut single off Nick Cave‘s second Grinderman album is dubbed “Heathen Child.” It’s a dank slab of blues-rock that’s so filthy you’ll be picking it out of your fingernails for weeks to come. The single streets on limited edition 12-inch red vinyl September 6 and features a version titled “Super Heathen Child.” That particular take sports a deafening solo from guitar god Robert Fripp (David Bowie, King Crimson). If you choose to take the download route, you’ll grab the B-side, “Star Charmer.”

Grinderman 2 comes out September 14 in the U.S. via Anti-. Listen to the non-Fripp iteration of “Heathen Child” below. (Via P4k/@grindermansite).

Robyn: “Hang With Me” Video

Robyn‘s sharp “on-the-road” video for “Hang With Me” finds the Swedish-pop starlet on the tour bus, backstage, onstage, giggling on a roller coaster, and interacting with her ravenous fans. Max Vitali lensed the nice clip. If you dig this, also check out his excellent video for “Dancing On My Own.”

The new single streets August 17 in North America, August 16 in Scandinavia, and September 5 in the U.K. and Australia. It will also appear on Body Talk Pt. 2, which drops September 6 in the U.K. via Konichiwa/Island and September 7 in the U.S. through Cherrytree. Watch it below:

Skream

“Finally” (Ft. La Roux) MP3

Jul 26, 2010

London dubstep artist Skream (Oliver Jones) is releasing his second LP, Outside the Box, on August 9 via Tempa. Listen to the portentous “Finally,” Jones’ latest collaboration with synth-pop queen La Roux. (The last time these two worked together was on the great 2009 remix of ”In for the Kill.”) Watch the sexy (NSFW) video of album cut, “Listening to the Recordings on My Wall,” below. (Via Fader.)

“I’m So Sad, So Very, Very Sad” (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Soundtrack) MP3 Stream

As we get closer and closer to the August 13 release date of comic book movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, more music trickles out onto the Internet.

Broken Social Scene‘s Brendan Canning contributed comically short punk rock tunes for the official soundtrack and now that Comic-Con is upon us, we’ve got the first listen. The track is called “I’m So Sad, So Very, Very Sad” and is performed by fictional band Crash and the Boys in the film. That actor Erik Knudsen on vocals. Oh, and it’s only five seconds long. Stream it below. (Via Prefix.)

The film’s soundtrack and Nigel Godrich‘s score street August 10.

Electric Sunset

“Soda” MP3

Jul 23, 2010

Electric Sunset is Nic Zwart’s solo project after the dissolution of his former dream-pop band, Desolation Wilderness. The frontman’s self-titled debut drops September 7 via K Records. The analog dreaminess that made Desolation Wilderness’ two LPs (2008’s White Light Strobing, 2009’s New Universe) and two seven-inches somewhat promising, is felt on the effervescent download track, “Soda.” Zwart utilizes his guitar, synthesizers, and modified samplers the way a shoegazer or ambient artist would treat their washes of melody. The lush and hazy LP touches on the artists’ traveling back to his hometown of San Francisco from Olympia, Wash.

Beck: “Summertime” MP3 Stream

In the upcoming comic book movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Michael Cera plays the titular Scott—bass player for fictional band Sex Bob-omb. The music of Sex Bob-omb—as we reported earlier—is penned by Beck (who with his record club and Eclipse track seems to be nearly everywhere these days), and sung by the actors. However, it turns out the prolific songwriter penned several additional tracks that will be included in the bonus edition of the soundtrack. Check out the crunchy rocker “Summertime.” (Via Stereogum.) - Laura Studarus
