The soul singer Ben E. King, best known for his song “Stand By Me,” has unfortunately passed away at the age of 76, reports the BBC (among others). King’s publicist Phil Brown says that he actually passed away on Thursday, due to natural causes.
Ben E. King began his career as a member of The Drifters, whose hits include “This Magic Moment” and “There Goes My Baby.” In addition to 1961’s “Stand By Me,” King’s other famous recordings include “Spanish Harlem” and “Supernatural Thing.” King is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Drifters.
