Just because you were in Bridesmaids doesn’t mean your mere presence is enough to save a predictable sitcom. Jessica St. Clair of that film stars as Jessica Black in Best Friends Forever where in the first scene she is served divorce papers while video chatting with her best friend Lennon Parham (who plays Lennon White). Jessica moves back to New York and into the apartment she used to share with Lennon, who is now living with her boyfriend, Joe (Luka Jones). This is not Three’s Company. It’s an even worse version of Whitney. Is bawdy humor about female body parts and grooming habits de rigueur now? Not only is this not funny, it’s offensive and bordering on degrading.
Best Friends Forever was created by stars St. Clair and Parham. The idea behind the show—having one best friend in a solid relationship, while the other is flailing, and trying to create a tricycle with the couple—is actually a good one. It’s just that the execution of this show has started off very shaky in the pilot. The talent is there, but how much can they do with this kind of bad script? Bring the writers up to par with the actors and Best Friends Forever might have a fighting chance. (www.nbc.com/bff/)
