With this oral history, noted music writer Greg Prato picks apart with precision the entirety of King's X's musical history. Including interviews from each of the band members-bassist Doug Pinnick, guitarist Ty Tabor, and drummer Jerry Gaskill-as well as friends and notable fans such as Jeff Ament, Kim Thayil, Mick Mars, and Billy Corgan, Prato presents with King's X an extensive and exhaustive tome on the much revered band.

Prato is surgical in his examination. Each album in the band's discography is given its own chapter, formatted similarly-an introduction, a track-by-track chronicling, and general reaction including comments from famous fellow musicians and fans. Interspersed are chapters detailing tours, and the book ends with chapters discussing every solo project from each member, compilations issued, and overall thoughts on the band's legacy.

As such, for anyone but the most devoted King's X supporter, the detail herein can become tedious. The book, however, has a forward momentum that will immerse the neophyte in King's X's music and prompt further listening. And for the hardcore fan, what could one want more than detail and minutiae to spare. Which is ultimately what Prato gives.
