I think we can all agree that the introduction of Jonny Greenwood as Radiohead’s guitarist is superfluous. Never mind that he is so much more than that for his band, Greenwood has earned the title of master composer for his film score work in collaboration with auteur Paul Thomas Anderson.

Today, there is not much an avid listener can expect from their beloved bands other than to simply rock. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Wrong Creatures ravages, destroys, pillages, and burns over regions of rock music’s most heralded aspects: serrating distortion, kindling rhythms, Lou Reed-copied vocal tonality.

On their third full-length LP, The Spook School continue to deal in optimistic ambiguity and unashamedly goofy queer indie pop. Only now, there’s noticeably less snarl in the tone of the songs.

After calling his inexplicably-named and indeterminably classifiable project quits in 2011, Marc Bianchi has resurrected Her Space Holiday with a four-song EP of new material. Titled Gravity, and borrowing a page from The Postal Service, Bianchi melds synthetic beats, dreamy synths, and just the right amount of guitar bursts into hooky bedroom pop that rocks.

The exclusivity of a vinyl-only release carries with it a certain temptation. It gives wax heads another reason to visit whatever record shop remains in their town on Saturday afternoon and it incentivises all others straddling the fence and tired of feeling left out to get a turntable and join in.

“I want to give so much so freely/Not have to take it back,” sing Stockholm sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg on “Rebel Heart.” The first track of their fourth album sways with a knowing nostalgia, steady in its melody.
